escape the ordinary

Sooo this time is about Morocco! I'll start with a brief introduction of this beautiful country. Morocco is located in the North Africa. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, with land border with Algeria to the east and Western Sahara. It also neighboring with Spain, but separated in different continent.

I was there in Winter. Firstly I went to the capital city, Rabat. but before that, lemme rewind my long flight experience from Indonesia to Rabat. I was supposed to arrive in 17th January 2020, but instead I got stuck in Malaysia for 3 days. Indonesian citizenship does not require a visa to enter Morocco, but we have to keep an eye of the flight transits. I mean, my original ticket was from Yogyakarta - Kuala Lumpur- Amsterdam - Paris - Rabat. But after I got to KL, the check in officer did not let us in because they said we need a visa for transit, tho we had confirmed to the visa center back in indonesia that they said we don't need any visa coz it's under 8 hours anyway. Ahaha bad luck but that's fine, i'm with my 2 other friends, Nita and Eriya. They're colleagues at IPB university and I'm from different uni, UGM. The three of us spend 2 nights at KL waiting for unclear respond from the airline, feeling pointless then we decided to book another ticket from another airline. I book return flight from KL to Marrakech for 500 euro and then took a train from Marrakech to rabat (15 euros), it took us 4 hours.

In winter, Rabat is around 9-18' Celcius. meanwhile Marrakech is more sunny, it can reach 28'C at noon. I stayed in the student dormitory for 68th IVSA Symposium in Rabat, with Nita as my roommate. I will summarize and give my comments about tourist destination in Rabat and Marrakech below! We can use tramp and bus as public transportation in Rabat, but kind reminder for me is better you speak french or Arabic here, because there's no english sign and the people itself mostly doesn't or barely can speak english. The city center is quite nice, palm trees surrounded us with a couple of fountains in the center. You may search further for the policies regarding taking pictures restrictions, there are some government buildings that is not allowed to be in frame.

Next place is Kasbah Udaya. It is located near Bou Regreg river, across Salé city. They said it was the place that cruellest pirates will gather. but don't worry, now it's lovely! it has beautiful iconic moroccan gate that u can take lots of pictures of. There's also a museum there. and if you have entered the gate, you will step into the traditional market with blue and white walls surrounding the market. There was one cafe you can find downstairs, it has the most beautiful view from upside.
Next up : Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Its divided into 3 sections. You can't take pictures in the first section. all in all, it was 7/10. cool museum but it's not one of my 'must visit' tourist places.

Quick Tips for tourist
1. Hide your bag, wallet and phone inside your coat/jacket
2. Never ask locals for directions, if you get lost, ask fellow travellers
3. Never put ur phone/wallet in ur pocket
4. Bring umbrella everywhere! it comes in handy
5. Don't 100% trust google maps
6. If you seek for riad (hotels), look at the review section
7. DON'T take a taxi from the airport. beware of scams, better take the bus. but taxi outside the airport is fine
8. be careful of taking pictures, don't record public attractions, they will demand money if you do that.
Last and the most beautiful place i've seen in rabat, Andalusian Garden. it was very exotic, a lot of ancient ruins surrounded by arabian garden, it feels like you're in Dorne (game of thrones).

Alright, now we can move to marrakech. as I mentioned before, it took 4 hours from rabat to marrakech by train and it costs 15 euros. As you walk out the train station, you can take taxi and marrakech people are better in english than at Rabat. I stayed in Riad Medina Art Marrakech. I'll tell u guys it was epic! So the riad is currently on their 2nd month after opening the moment i stayed there (January 2020). The place is soooo nice, food is great, service? couldn't ask for more. and it's only 65 euros per night each room. the riad provides breakfast and shuttle car to airport/train station. it has pool, wifi, nice scents, and everything. The riad located in the old town, inside the market or they call it Jemaa el-Fna. At the first time, I was a bit confused to find the riad, because it's like lots of alleys and i didn't think that there will be a hotel there. But when we find the hotel sign, and we knocked, it feels like entering a paradise ahahah. Okay next I will talk about the market. Since I mentioned my riad is located in the middle of the market, right after I got into the riad, I stroll around the market.

Please do keep in mind to watch out of your belongings since a lot of pickpockets waiting for you to get distracted.

The next day, I have one day trip (without a tour guide). I counted on google maps. I planned the track the night before, first stop is Le Jardin Secret, then Koutobia Mosque, lastly, Palais de Bahia. Those three places can be reached by walking.

It is a place that has kept ancient structures intact that are of an extraordinary cultural value, linked to the art of gardens, architecture and Arab hydraulics. The museum provides you with a wealth of historical information about Marrakech's architecture, water, and gardens. You will also find a boutique, a bookshop and two cafes inside Le Jardin Secret. The cafes offer you up fresh, homemade products that you can eat in lush and peaceful settings.

This one is the front enterance of Koutobia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakech.  It is located about 200 metres west of the city’s the Jemaa El Fna. The mosque is ornamented with curved windows, a band of ceramic inlay, pointed merlons, and decorative arches. if you're a moslem, you can enter and pray inside. I stopped by to buy some pomegranate juice, no sugar, no ice, but it was very sweet and cold enough. only for 15 dirham! my fav fresh juice so far. After a long sunny day, me and Nita decided to enjoy the sun in the garden in front of the mosque, while slurping our pomegranate juice.

Palais de Bahia

It was the greatest palace of its time. The name means "brilliance".

it was intended to capture the essence of the Islamic and Moroccan style.

4 rooms for his wives, which are equal in size, meaning all 4 wives were equal in status

a school, where Abu’s sons and daughters were taught by their teachers and turned into a mosque 5 times a day for praying

I took these pictures with iphone 11, no filter (except the cover)

My first time in Croatia has been amazing. Croatia is a country with lots of culture and old buildings completed by the sea view. I visited 5 different cities in Croatia, they are Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Makarska, and Dubrovnik.

1. Zagreb
Zagreb is a city located in the middle of urban life. If you're looking for the mediterranean sea shore view, this is not the place. But if you're eager to shop and enjoy night life, this town might interest you. There are also unique museums you can visit : Museum of illusions and museum of broken relationships. I went to the museum of broken relationship and it was full of sad stories. you may also add your love story to the museum if you have interesting failed love story. Main destination of Zagreb is the City Center. You can go there by walk, tramp, and bus. There are lots of restaurants, market, stores, Zagreb cathedral, st. mark's church and stone gate. There is one place that i love the most in Croatia because of it's beauty and authenticity called Plitvice lake, you can reach it from Zagreb, 3 hours by bus. You can see the water is crystal clear and lots of fishes underneath. If you seek for a cheap accomodation, I recommend Chillout hostel, located in the centra city near the best ice cream in town called Vincek.

2. Zadar
There are several activities that you can do in Zadar. It has old buildings at the city center. Zadar is located in sea area but you cant really find lots of beaches to swim. At the port you can find monument of the sun and sea organ beside it. You can swim there but it's deep and has strong waves. if you're not so good at swimming i did not recommend you to swim there. However you still can find a beach near the city in 15 minutes walk. you need to search closely because it's kinda hidden.
Croatia has many small island such as hvar, vis, korcula, etc. The closest way to reach them is from zadar, around 2.5 hours by bus. Trip for 5 island is around 98-125 euro.

3. Split
You can find a LOT of water sports and activities in split. you can also reach the small islands from here, otherwise there are also other activities you can do in split such as hiking to St. Peter's Church. it's located uphill then you can go downhill to the beach and swim. Other option, you can also go to Krka National park. Unlike Plitvice Lake, you can swim at Krka National Park. It's 1.5 hour by bus from split and you have to get off the bus at skraden. I booked a hostel in front of the beach, 2.5 km from the bus station. Split also has old buildings and also urban night life at the city center. If you recognize one of the scene where Daenerys Targaryen walked down through stairs to her dragons, it was filmed in Split.

4. Makarska
Makarska is not a busy town, it's a small town where you can chill and relax. Makarska is surrounded by mountains and also has sea view if you search hard enough. I went hiking through the woods (followed google maps) to Nugal beach. It took me about 30 mins to get there, turns out it's a nude beach hahah but luckily no one's clothless since nobody's there. You have to keep this in mind if you go there, go back before 9 pm (before dark) or it'll be dangerous road, no lamps, just trees.

5. Dubrovnik
Known as King's Landing if you watch Game of thrones. Yes, Lots of scenes from king's landing was filmed in dubrovnik. Red keep, Cercei's walk of shame, scene where cercei lost her daughter, where joffery died, etc. If you're a fan of Game of Thrones, it's a perfect place for you. You can also join GoT tour for 150 kuna. I joined kayak tour by world of kayak for 240 kuna. you can also get free snorkeling equipments, it takes 3 hours. Dubrovnik has higher price than other cities since it is the top destination of croatia. So I recommend you to save money to spend it here or split.

Other details, I'll insert prices for intercity bus and entrance fees:
Zagreb - zadar : €13
Zadar - split : €16
Split - makarska :€ 8
Makarska - dubrovnik : € 15
Split  : skraden : € 21

Krka national park :120hrk ; student : 200 hrk
Split  : skraden : 21

Plitvice : 166 hrk student
Kayak : 250 hrk
Got tour : 150 hrk

Pentingnya Vaksinasi Panleukopenia Pada Kucing

Maria Angelica Maryatmo
Universitas Gadjah Mada

Usually when people ask me where I come from, they don't exactly know Indonesia. But when I say Bali, who doesn't know about Bali right? In this article I will talk about another paradise in Indonesia called Labuan Bajo based on my experience. Not many people know that today Labuan Bajo has flourished to become a gate away to many exotic destinations in Indonesia.

Labuan Bajo is a city that located in Komodo Island, East Nusa Tenggara. It is the perfect place for travellers who want to seek true nature away from the crowd, and the most important thing is, way more cheaper than Bali.

You can book a flight from Denpasar (DPS) Bali to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) around IDR 1.000.000 or $70. You will arrive in komodo international airport that located in the main island. Komodo island is an archipelago, they only have restaurants, hotels, and accomodation in the main island. You can go to your hotel by taxi or motorcycle taxi if you don't bring a heavy suitcase. Online transportation hasn't reached this region yet. Locals provide the taxi, no need to be scared to talk to the locals, they're friendly and they can provide you accomodations, tour, and else. Actually the distance from the airport to the hotel is not far but the road is bumpy. I booked a boatel (hotel in a boat) called Le Pirates in Sudirman Street. If you dont want to sleep in the boatel, you can book a room in the land, so basically they have 2 places, land hotel and boatel. For just only $40-$60 per night, you can experience relaxing sensation, natural pool which is the sea, and the best part is sunrise/sunset there. You have to go to the boatel by a shuttle boat (free), there's a schedule for it. While waiting, usualy Le pirates provide a movie to watch on the rooftop. They also have a restaurant on the second floor. About the boat, it has 2 floors, the first floor is for guest rooms, and the second floor is the restaurant and bar. But I found it was kinda boring if you stay too long in the boat, so I decided to explore the island. I rented a motorcycle for IDR 70.000 / $5 per day and just wandering through the bitumen road. There's a village behind all of the gleaming tourism spots, which you can find a lot of balinese cattle run around the field without any fence.

As I mentioned before, you can book a tour by asking the locals. Its way more cheaper than the internet. I booked a one day trip IDR 450.000 ($32) to Menjerite Island, Padar Island and the National Conservation of Komodo Dragon. You can also choose other destinations such as Gili Lawa, Kelor Island, Batu Cermin, Wae Cicu, Wae Rebo, and else. It also includes lunch, snorkeling tools, and coffee break.

First destination that I want to share with u is Menjerite Island. I went there to snorkle, like legit it was the best snorkeling experience of mine. The corals are still not damaged, colorful, and you can swim along with a lot of small fishes hahah i felt like a mermaid for a moment. I didn't take any picture underwater because unfortunately i don't have underwater camera, but I attached a picture from liburpedia-travel.com. Also watch out the shallow part of the sea if you don't want to get scratched by the coral.

Next destination is Padar Island. I recommend to y'all. You S H O U L D go there, I'm dead serious. Padar Island is famous for the beautiful view from the top of the hills. So u have to hike first. No need to worry, the road is tourist-friendly : Stairs. It's safe from komodo dragon as long as you did not cross the borders. It took me around 1 hour to hike back and forth. It was tiring of course, but when you reach the top, you'll forget all of the sweat u gained and just wow.

Last destination to wrap up the trip was National Conservation of Komodo Dragon. Entrance fee was not included in the trip. For foreigner, you have to pay IDR 150.000 or $11. You will be guided and given a lot of information about komodo dragon along the way. There are 3 routes you can choose in national conservation of komodo dragon : Near, Medium, Far. I chose the medium one. it took around 1 hour of escapade through the woods, and then hike the hill and walk down back to the entrance gate. You can see a lot of komodo dragon there, that includes the babies. Tho it's still a baby, it can run very fast. Don't get yourself too close to the komodo dragon, it can kill you with only their saliva. There are 5000 komodo dragons spread all over the island. You are not allowed to go alone, and do not let yourself get separated from the group.

About the details, like the food there, it's way more cheaper than in Bali. I bought fried rice in a bowl of coconut IDR 20.000 = $1.5 only. I really like spicy / strong seasoned food so i think this might not fulfil my desire haha. The food there is mild, but if you like strong food like me, you can come by an Italian restaurant in Sudirman Street, I'm sorry I forgot the name but it was good. Actually I was disappointed because I just have 3 days there, tho I really want to explore more. There's a one place that famously known for its beauty and its authenticity named Wae Rebo, but it's far and so hard to reach. around 8 hours by car, and it has bumpy road. If you're a traveller, i think it's the perfect destination to explore. You can ask the locals and they will guide you there.
I think that's all bout Labuan Bajo from me, go out and explore more ^^
